These old railway spikes were commonly called dog or railway spikes.
The spikes we have for sale are from the railway track running between Alice Springs - Darwin in the NT.
In the early days, dog spikes were commonly used in the wooden sleepers on the railway whilst laying the track.
The timber sleepers were later replaced with concrete & a screw spike was more widely used.
Railroad spikes are mainly classified into two types - dog spike & a screw spike.
Note - These are a very historical part of our railway history & signs of wear commensurate with age.
Each spike is unique in shape & form which makes them so special.
Size - 14cm approximately & spike head 4cm long approximately.
