These wonderful early century child’s portraits are known as ‘Opalotype’ style photos.

Opalotypes were printed on sheets of opaque, translucent white milk glass.

Early opalotypes were sometimes hand-tinted with colours to enhance their effect.
The effect of opalotype has been compared to watercolor or even pastel in its softer colouring & style.

The technique was invented in the UK in 1857 & waned out of vogue in the 1930’s when other more cost effective methods were introduced.

We’ve named the little girl on the chair Amelié & the baby on the tapestry rug Belle.

These are a highly collectable item which makes them even more covetable.

What an interesting item for your home!
